TAKE YOUR PICK
Although we are now in July, anglers at Powdermill still have plenty of choice as to where to fish and what to use. This is primarily because the water is
cooler than normal for this time of year and the reservoir is still almost full with crystal clear water.
The favoured method is still dry fly tactics as fish still seem to want to take flies off the surface. Fish along the dam and on the far bank all seem to be
very close to the surface and a floating line is all you need. Boat anglers have a wide choice of location and method as trout are still spread throughout
the reservoir. The 'bubbles' along the air pipe can be very productive at this time especially if the temperature rises, as can casting a fly close to
bushes where the trout expect goodies to fall from the branches. Deep water tactics do not seem to be effective at the moment.
This is the time of year when you normally have to work hard for your fish, but current conditions plus recent stockings should help ensure that the catch
rate is higher than normal for July. After the mayfly rush, now is the time to avoid the crowds and enjoy some excellent fishing in some of the most
beautiful surroundings that the South East can offer.
